The Institute of Technology Tralee is delighted to introduce a new Level 8 honours degree in Event Management for CAO entry in September 2018.
This 3 years honours degree is the only of its kind in Ireland and has been designed in collaboration with national and international experts from the event management industry.
With ever-increasing demand for qualified graduates for the growing festival and events sector, the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Event Management Level 8 programme is designed to give graduates the necessary knowledge, skills, qualities and competences required to gain employment in a variety of settings within the events industry.
Students will complete the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Programme in Event Management through participation in traditional lectures and studying online. Throughout the programme students will also be provided with opportunities to put taught knowledge into practice through live industry case studies, innovative assignments and significant industry work placement, which includes a 12 week placement at the end of Year 3.
On announcing the programme details, Head of Department of Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism at the IT Tralee Mr. Ray O’Connor Desmond said: “'The Meetings, Incentive, Conference and Exhibitions Industry is growing rapidly worldwide, and Ireland is becoming a key destination for hosting large scale international conferences and conventions. With continued growth predicted by Fáilte Ireland, these events will require highly skilled graduates to plan and manage the successful events of the future. This degree programme aims to provide graduates with a comprehensive knowledge of event organisation, management and evaluation, making them highly employable across the sector both in Ireland and abroad.
Head of School of Business, Computing and Humanities Ms. Mary Rose Stafford added: “Events have grown in both number and scale across the country and are extremely significant for County Kerry and the wider South West region. These events help to generate significant employment, both direct and indirect in the region. IT Tralee is meeting a regional and national demand for graduates with event management skillsets and the benefit of completing the degree in three years means graduates are work ready in a more timely manner whilst having made multiple industry connections through the work placement opportunity of the programme.
Graduates can expect to avail of job opportunities in the areas of event management and coordination, events administration, conference and event sales, conference and banqueting co-ordination, and fundraising management and co-ordination, among others. Potential employers span the public and private sectors such as hotels, specialist event companies, tourism and cultural organisations, festival organisers, convention bureaus and PR and marketing agencies.
